Bio & Contact

I’m a researcher at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society and Online Director at Fix Congress First.

I’m interested in building, using, and understanding digital tools to do good things in the world. Currently, I’m studying digital governance models at Berkman (the scholarly side) and fighting for campaign finance reform with Lawrence Lessig at Fix Congress First (the activist side).

I’m also–sequentially or all at once–a web developer, book lover, photographer, outdoorsy type, punctuation devoté, and thoroughly amateur chef.

I’m a Pacific Northwesterner ar heart, but I currently live in Cambridge, MA, and my family lives in Waitati, New Zealand–a world center for pacifist warfare and composting toilets–where I’m a permanent resident. I graduated from Reed College in Portland, OR in 2009 with a degree in English. I have the pleasure of working with Howard Rheingold–another Reedie and thoroughly nice guy–on his forthcoming book about digital literacy.

I’ve previously worked as the Social Media Director for T. Boone Pickens’s alternative energy campaign, co-built a Facebook app for online voter registration, and successfully passed an online voter registration bill in Oregon.
